Insights from a Conversation between HR and Accounting Professionals

I enjoyed working with Andy for the collaboration. We had a great conversation on the phone.

We started our phone conversation by talking about our professional work backgrounds. Andy, an accountant with ten years of experience, and I, with nearly 15 years of Human Resources experience, discussed our professional backgrounds and what we expect from PIDP. The most commonality between us was our shared passion for transitioning into teaching and becoming educators in our respective fields. We are eager to share our wealth of experience and provide guidance in our professional fields.

Our conversation naturally turned to the trends shaping our professional areas, focusing on the profound impact of technology and the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We agreed that technology has drastically changed work environments, and remote and hybrid working arrangements are becoming more common. From my human resources perspective, I emphasized the increasing importance of adapting to new skills with this transition, especially the need for employees to use many digital tools and platforms effectively.

As Andy shared his insights from his blog article about the accounting world, it became clear that integrating AI tools and data analystics is redefining traditional roles. What resonated with us was the pervasive impact of AI in both of our professional fields. It prompted us to re-evaluate how tasks are performed and we highlighted the critical need for appropriate training to leverage AI's potential effectively.

Our discussion shifted to the rise of adult education MOOCs, my blog article, a topic that fascinates us both. We underlined that the extraordinary ease and accessibility of accessing MOOCs is at our fingertips. However, our concern added to our excitement when discussing these courses' persistently low completion rates. We shared a common belief in the importance of course design and facilitation, emphasizing that learners need training that is accessible but also easily navigable, engaging and understandable.

What interested us more was the discovery of learning theories. It deepened our understanding of the learning theory behind assignments and reflections. We agreed that PIDP promises to equip us with new perspectives and approaches to adult learning and enrich our future roles as an instructor.

This conversation sums up the ever-evolving nature of work in the modern age. We underlined the need for adaptability, the acquisition of digital skills and a deep understanding of learning theories in shaping the future of our respective fields as an instructor.
